What Exactly is Dedicated Hosting?

When we speak of hosting web servers, there are 3 major varieties - shared website hosting servers, VPS (virtual private web servers) and dedicated servers. Shared web servers host many clients and thus the resources per web hosting account are restricted, VPS packages give you more server configuration liberty, but also influence other virtual private web servers on the hardware node if utilized imprudently, and dedicated servers give you the possibility to perform everything you decide without intervening with anyone else.

Why would you need a dedicated server?

Dedicated servers are typically much more high-priced than shared web hosting servers or virtual private web servers. Why would anyone, then, want to use them? The answer is very simple. If your company has a high resource-absorbing web page, or just has very precise web server architecture requirements, the proper option would be a dedicated server. For someone who is willing to invest in safety and stability, the bigger price is of no importance. You get full root privileges and can utilize 100 percent of the dedicated hosting web server's system resources without anyone else sharing these system resources and messing with your online portals.

Hardware specs

Most hosting distributors, incl. us at EZ IT Solutions, offer different hardware architectures you can choose from in accordance with your necessities. The configurations include different varieties of processors, a different number of cores, different RAM memory and disk drive sizes and different monthly bandwidth allowances. You can select a web hosting Control Panel, which is a handy software tool if you wish to utilize the dedicated web hosting server for website hosting purposes only and prefer not to use a Secure Shell client for all the modifications you will be making. We provide 3 types of web hosting CP software - Hepsia, DirectAdmin and cPanel.

The Control Panel of your choice

If you are a confident Linux OS user (our dedicated web hosting servers are powered by Linux or other Unix-based Operating Systems), you could administer your dedicated server through an SSH tunnel exclusively. That, though, could be inconvenient, even more so if you choose to give full root access to somebody else who has less technical abilities than yourself. This is why having web hosting CP software pre-activated is an excellent idea. The Hepsia Control Panel GUI that we provide does not offer complete server root access and is mainly appropriate for somebody who owns plenty of web pages that swallow a lot of resources, but prefers to manage the web portals, databases and e-mail box accounts via an intuitive web hosting Control Panel. The DirectAdmin and cPanel hosting Control Panels, on the other hand, grant full server root privileges and have three access levels - root, reseller and user. If you plan to resell hosting packages rather than using the hosting server solely for yourself, you should choose one of these two.

Server monitoring and backup services

Last but not least, there is the matter of monitoring the dedicated server and of backing it up. In the event of a predicament with your dedicated server, like a non-responsive Apache or an outage, it is useful to have some kind of monitoring system enabled. Here at EZ IT Solutions the system administrators monitor all dedicated servers for ping timeouts, and, if you have a Managed Services package, they monitor the individual services on the dedicated server as well. Backups are also an additional option - the hosting provider offers you data backups on our own backup web servers. You could choose a type of RAID that would permit you to have the very same data on two server hard drives as a protective measure in the event of a hard disk drive failure, or in case someone whom you have ranted full server root access erases something by accident.
